Decommissioning  The Quonset Huts ********************************************** Saturday, September 11th, 2004 1400-2000, Program at 1700, Picnic to follow The quonset huts are located on the NDSU Campus on the corner of 12th Avenue North and Bolley Drive.  Parking is available just North of the center and a large parking lot is across the street to the South.

The first Naval Reserve Center in North Dakota was constructed on NDSU Property in 1947. The quonset huts have been used by NDSU for storage and has housed the Art Department since 1983. The building will be demolished this fall after the Art Department moves to it's new facilities in downtown Fargo.

NDSU has granted us permission to tour this facility and hold a Naval Reserve Reunion at the site. I hope you will be able to attend! It may be fun to walk through the old drill deck, bridge, CIC, classrooms and offices and reminisce about the "Good Old Days" while drilling there. The success of the event will depend on your attendance. It is our last chance to say good-bye to the old girl (kind of like decommissioning a ship) and it will be fun visiting with your shipmates. All Active Duty and Naval Reservists are invited - not just those who served in the quonset huts. We are working on getting a "quonset hut souvenir" for those who drilled there.

The quonset huts will be available to tour starting at 1400 (2:00pm). A short program will be held at 1700 with a picnic to immediately follow. We will be serving hamburgers and brats along with all the fixings. We need you to RSVP so we know how many we need to prepare for. We need your help! I have tried to maintain a mailing list and an e-mail list of former Naval Reservists, but I know it includes only a small percentage of those who actually drilled at NRC Fargo.
