American Legion Shows Support for Guard
Families
FARGO, N.D. - North Dakota American Legion Post 2, in
Fargo, and its Auxiliary, donated $4,500 this past weekend to support
North Dakota Army National Guard Family Readiness Groups in the Fargo
area.
Sergeant-at-Arms Al Zimmerman presented Raina Askin, Family Readiness
Group volunteer, with a check for $3,000. The money will be divided
among the five Fargo companies that are preparing for a yearlong
deployment to Kosovo later this year. Those units include Companies A, B
and C of the 231st Brigade Support Battalion, the 426th Signal Company
and Headquarters and Headquarters Company of the 141st Maneuver
Enhancement Brigade.
Zimmerman also presented a $1,500 check to Penny Jacobson, the lead
volunteer for the 1-188th Air Defense Artillery RAID-III Family
Readiness Group satellite in Fargo. RAID-III (Rapid Aerostat Initial
Deployment) mobilized last week and will deploy to Afghanistan once
completing training at Fort Hood, Texas.
North Dakota National Guard Family Readiness Groups offer support and
information to any military family member - whether Guard, Reserve or
active duty, and whether here or deployed overseas.
Chartered by Congress in 1919, the American Legion was founded as a
patriotic, mutual-help, war-time veterans' organization. It is a
community-service organization that has more than 20,000 members in 220
posts across North Dakota.
Since the terrorist attacks on America, the North Dakota National Guard
has mobilized more than 2,800 Soldiers and more than 1,600 Airmen in
support of the Global War on Terrorism. More than 3,000 National
Guardsmen remain in North Dakota and are available to provide support
for state and national emergencies and homeland defense.
