Monthly Membership Meeting
(Membership Meeting Minutes: August 3, 2010)

Proceedings:
Meeting called to order at 7:34 p.m. by Commander Linda Whaley with the Presentation of the Colors, Pledge of Allegiance, National Anthem (recorded by American Legion State Band), Prayer and American Legion Preamble.
Executive Committee Minutes for July 20, 2010 approved.

Special Guest – Launette Figliuzzi, Cass County Veteran Service Officer and newest American Legion Gilbert C. Grafton #2 Fargo ND member. Commander Whaley introduced Launette Figliuzzi. Legionnaire Figliuzzi provided the members in attendance a briefing on Veterans Benefits.

Commander Whaley:
• Post Meeting Minutes are published on www.FargoLegion.org within a couple days after the initial Post meeting and are on the back table for Legionnaires to view. No corrections were made.
o Motion made by Rick Morales to approve July 6, 2010, Post Meeting Minutes, second by Amy Wieser-Willson, motion approved
• Presented Legionnaire Hank Deyle with the American Legion Award of Appreciation for his accomplishment regarding the Post Revitalization Program.
o Legionnaire Deyle received a standing ovation from the members
• Informed the membership the number to Post #2 Legion Office is 237-4013
• Provided State Legion Office cost to rent Bomber Bus
• Reminded membership to bring in their can tabs for Ronald McDonald house

Finance Officer, Tom Tolman:
• Provided members present a detailed overview of the Finance Report and financial statements to members present
• Reviewed highlights, trends and issues from the balance sheet, income statement and cash flow statement.
• Membership renewals have begun to arrive and reflect on our balance sheets.
• Shared Gilbert C. Grafton Post #2 is financially solvent through April 2011.
• Motion made by Rick Morales to accept the financial report, second by Amy Wieser-Willson, motion approved

Adjunct’s Report:
• Read July 20, 2010, Executive Board Meeting Minutes
o Motion made by Rick Morales to approve July 20, 2010, Executive Board Meeting Minutes, second by Amy Wieser-Willson, motion approved
• Has State Commander Vetter’s Pins available for $5.00 each

3rd Vice Commander’s Report:
• Legion Service Officer – Jim Deremo - Not Present/No Report Given
• 1st District Vice Commander – Ron Matthews - Plans on traveling throughout the district to discuss membership
• 1st District Commander – Steve Parmer – Not Present/No Report Given
• VA-VS – Dave Lee - Bingo at Veteran Affairs Medical Hospital in Fargo, ND on July 8, 2010
o 14 players, 3 workers (Dave Rice, Mike Stenerson and Jim Schlenker)
o Next meeting on Aug 12, 2010. Commander Whaley is invited attend
• VA & R – Cathy Keogh – Referred to Amy Weiser-Wilson
o Discussed Public Service Announcements coming out soon
o Connecting with Heart Springs in developing a seminar on PTSD
• Oratorical – Michele Olson – Nothing new to report

2rd Vice Commander’s Report:
• Color Guard – Will Hebert - Color Guard presented Colors and provided military honors at two (2) funerals and welcome ceremonies for returning troops
• Toy/Bike Shop – Will Hebert - Bike shop has provided lots of bike to homeless veterans referred by the VA and Project Hart
• United Patriotic Bodies – Bob Long – Has provided flags during the July 4th celebrations and for welcome ceremonies for returning troops
• Boys State – Wayne Wermager- Nothing new to report
• Band – Cathy Keogh –
o Dixie Band played at Local Days
o Informed membership recording of National Anthem play during our opening ceremonies was a recording of the State American Legion Band and that CD’s are available for purchase.
o State Legion Band will perform at the American Legion National Convention later this month
• Athletics – Hank Deyle – Baseball season is over
o Post #2 finished with a record of 24-30 and came in 5th place
o Bombers finished with a record of 34-16 and finished in second place
o This week the Junior Legion Mid-State Regional Classic is being played in Fargo, ND
? August 5 – 9, 2010
? Legionnaires are needed to read sportsman code at the Junior Legion Mid-State Regional Classic

1st Vice Commander’s Report:
• Discussed Membership
o Challenged Gilbert C. Grafton Post #2 members to contact their friends and past members to join Gilbert C. Grafton Post #2
o Challenged Gilbert C. Grafton Post #2 members to make Adjutant Matthews crazy with processing new memberships and membership renewals
o Shared Gilbert C. Grafton Post #2 as of this meeting has 506 members and our minimum goal is 1250 members

Adjunct read Correspondence:
• Read letter of Thank You from Boy’s State attendee

New Business:
o Hank Deyle - Provided update regarding the sale of the building. He shared today the building was viewed by an encouraging prospect and further discussion still need to take place.

Helmet Passed – $27.29 collected
Closing Ceremony - Moment of Silence Commander Linda Whaley offered the closing prayer and Colors Retired
