A Much Needed Update Most of you know that we have closed the Club and
placed the Building on the market, but your American Legion Post #2
continues to meet. Post meetings are still being held in Patriot Hall on
the first Tuesday of every month. The Executive Committee has been
struggling with how to handle the decreased income and increased
expenses and building repairs. It has been a battle well fought, but the
struggle has been a bit too much. Over the last 30 years or so, the
post’s CD’s were used to make up for shortages and the last one cashed
in about 10 years ago. The attempts to raise cash since than have come
up short. POST # 2 Is Moving Forward While we own the building, we will be opening for
meetings. While down a little, our membership is approaching 1200. The
Color Guard is still rendering military honors at a pace exceeding any
other local Honor Guard. Flags for First Graders went well again at all
of our elementary schools. |

Bringing Forth An Updated Image Many of us have been encouraging a concerted effort to recruit new members from our current members of the guard and reserve as well as active duty. These people will provide the life blood to all veteran’s organizations. What better way to provide the programs and activities they desire than getting them involved with us. Times are changing and their time is now. We need support them, help provide what they desire if they are to join us. As you look over the slate of candidates, you notice a number of new names or younger members, recently active vets. We have been dealing with a number of very serious, complex problems in recent years. The Executive Committee is willing to stay on and continue their guidance through the critical issues facing us. You see Past Commanders in office again. You see Post #2’s Legionnaire of the Year, Amy Wieser Willson, who recently received a national award from the Guard for her public relations work with the North Dakota National Guard. Brad Aune and Rick Morales are the contacts for vets to see at Job Service ND in Fargo. |
