Commander's
Corner
Keith Kerbaugh
As your new Commander may I introduce myself. I am a 30
year member of Post #2 and married to the daughter of the long time
Legionnaire family of Vern and Barb Useldinger. My wife Brenda has been
an Auxiliary member since 1958 and both my children Joshua (SAL) and
Jessica (Auxiliary) are members.
I make my living as a business development specialist. I
have served on the Exec. Committee for four years and as Chair of the
Capital Campaign Committee.
During my year as Commander I have 20 specific agenda
items I want to accomplish. Over the next few newsletters I will explain
each of them. The first three are the most important and will have
the highest priority. Our success on these three will give the Legion a
solid financial footing and preserve our heritage for future generations.
1. Evaluate the Post financial affairs and
organize/operate it as a business
2. Finish the Capital Campaign
3. Increase membership through presentations to local
businesses.
The new Executive Committee is a business minded group who
are dedicated to guiding the Legion this next year. I look forward to
working with this group as we work for the members and guide the Legion
and its programs.
Currently we have a financial team evaluating our books
under the guidance of Virgil Estenson and Dave Rice. With this
information we will have a new accounting program starting July 1st which
will give us excellent information to make our decisions.
I look forward to serving the vets of Post #2 and our
community over the next year. If I haven’t met you please take the time
to introduce yourself to me.
Keith Kerbaugh,
Commander, Fargo American Legion

Auxiliary President's Message
Barb Nash
Greetings
We continue to need our renewals sent
in. So, please remember to do so. Please remember our soldiers who
are currently out fighting the war on terror. As we have been recently
reminded through more deaths of our servicemembers, this is still a very
dangerous war on many fronts. Think of ways we can let them know we are
thinking of them and praying for their safe return.
I’m asking again to please consider
taking a chairmanship position this next year. None of these positions
require a huge time commitment. They require only a desire to be involved
with our Children & Youth and Veteran programs. All are worthy causes.
Positions not filled are needs not being met and there are many
needs.
Have a good summer!
Barb Nash,
Auxiliary President, Unit #2

Additions
Bob Jacobson
Summer is rapidly approaching. The nicer weather should lead to
getting more outside work done. This includes repairs and improvements at
our Legion club. The new doors have been installed and the window
replacement is underway. The handicap door operator is yet to be
installed. We are also installing wiring for two smaller A/C units in the
lounge and an outside power outlet. If you haven’t been down, pay us a
visit and check out the new sign too. The “Third Thursday Downtown Band”
events are being undertaken by your American Legion Post this year. The
new power outlet will provide power to the bands and make other lawn
events possible also. A Beer Garden will also be set up for the Third
Thursday events. Com’ on down and help support your club.
Membership
renewals are due. July 1 starts the new year as far as collecting dues
for 2006-2007. Dues are still $34.00, but may be increasing on January 1,
2007. We have your renewal membership card ready to go in the office. We
would also like to have an e-mail address for post use, if you use one.
We decided not to provide national with e-mail addresses, but asked that
you do so if you are willing. Robert (Bob) Jacobson,
Adjutant
Gilbert C. Grafton Post 2 |

| Go Getter Requirements
For the 2007 membership year, the Go Getter requirements will be
changed in an attempt to get in touch with our members. As before,
30 points will be needed but each member must have a new information
sheet filled out. It will be the responsibility of each recruiter to
get this sheet filled out and turned into the office to get credit
for each new or renewal member. Currently we only have 80 email
addresses for members and the majority of the member information is
very outdated and incomplete. Recruiters please take the time to
help the Legion obtain accurate updated member information. The
information sheets are available in the office. |

Building Remodel
The new front doors, handicapped opener and windows have been installed
giving the Legion building a fresh look. Most of the funds were provided
by the City of Fargo, Cook Sign Company and Northland Glass. A new air
conditioner system has been installed in the lower level. It will
dramatically reduce our summer cooling costs. $18,500 needs to be raised
to complete the outside project which includes cleaning/repairing the
surface and some lighting.
