November Post 2 American Legion Combined Meeting — Nov. 1, 2011
Attendees: 24 Legionnaires and 12 Auxiliary members
1930 – Meeting called to order

Program: Katie Smith, social worker with the VA Caregiver Support Program
The VA Caregiver Support program is able to pay some carefgivers and provide general support to all veterans’ caregivers. Those caring for someone injured post-9/11 can receive a stipend if they meet certain criteria, such as an injury (not illness) requiring care and validated by a doctor. (PTSD is not considered an injury in the criteria.) The pay is equivalent to that of a home health aide in the area, about $16-20/hour. There also are other services and support groups available for caregivers.

Oct. post minutes: accepted as posted
Oct. Executive Committee Meeting minutes: accepted as posted
Auxiliary secretary minutes: accepted as posted

Financial reports: will be impacted when bar food and gaming start soon; half of the income is membership and half is Pickled Parrot; this winter’s energy bills will be less since they’re split between the PP, gaming, restaurant and post; balance sheet is about the same as last month

Membership: 34 memberships were processed just prior to the meeting putting the post at greater than 65% of the total goal, which meets the Nov. 14 goal mark, as well; the Auxiliary is at 53.2% of its membership goal with 187 members

Sickness/Distress: none
Unfinished Business:
Veterans Day (Cathy Keogh): veggie cutting starts at 1 p.m. Nov. 10; stew recipe is downstairs; still need veggie donations
Newsletter (Chris Hanson): almost complete and will go to printer this week

Kitchen (Larry Jacobson): need to paint ceiling, replace floor tiles and get health inspection; starting with a 20-item bar menu from 1100-2200 Sunday-Thursday and will play Friday and Saturday by ear; 21Nov target start date
Bingo (Larry Jacobson): City of Fargo won’t allow Bingo until we prove we can effectively manage pull tabs for a while; target date is 1Jan12

Tree (Tommy Tolman): the city will remove logs piled at the boulevard but the tree must come down ASAP or the city will bill us
Member news (Cathy Keogh): an article on Conrad Newgren is in the Veteran Salute paper

Discounts (Chris Hanson): see adjutant for a list of Veterans Day related discounts

Cleanliness (Steve Parmer): entryway is dusty and should be kept cleaner; the PP’s fluctuating hours causes confusion

Other Business:
12Nov fundraiser (Wayne Wamanger): 5K run/walk on 12Nov sponsored by VVA
HeartSprings Fundraiser (Amy Wieser Willson): nonprofit supports veterans and is hosting a fundraiser at 6 p.m. 4Nov with music, dance instruction, dinner and silent auction

Helmet passed and $48.44 was raised for the Gladys Ray Shelter

2021 - meeting duly closed
